Low Tox Shower Staples

Did you know that women put an average of 168 chemicals on their bodies every day? 80 of those are before breakfast in the form of soaps, lotions, shampoos, and makeups! I’m a firm believer in learning new info and then acting on that new knowledge! And I challenge you to try one of these today! To keep it stress free, I do what is within my budget and what I know I will stick with! For example, I love to make my own foaming body wash because my family flies through items like that and I know it saves us money. Plus, it’s a clean option and smells amazing!! I will not however, part with my Paul Mitchell shampoo! LOL! I’ve been using it since I was a kid and I have tried many other natural options and they just don’t work for my hair! The bottom line, do what works for you and make changes when you can! If it’s stressing you out, then it’s not the right change for you at this time!

Here is a fun guide with some low tox shower staples! I love making the shower feel like a spa with a wellness focus! It’s a great time to zone out and treat yourself, even if you are short on time! Try some of these ideas to set you up for a great day, improve mood and circulation as well! I added some easy DIY ideas that I’m loving and if you just want to add something super easy that only requires a trip to the grocery, I have you covered too!

Plus, I always finish off my showers with a shot of cold water! Helps to regulate the nervous system! Once you try it, you’ll be addicted to it!

Oil Drops

Super Simple way to elevate your daily shower! Put several drops of essential oil right under the running water to open up your sinuses and wake you up! I put it right on the floor and it’s like a steamy diffuser to start the day! I like peppermint or eucalyptus!

Shower Steamers

Want to take it to the next level? You can make your own shower steamers! These little dissolvable tablets are amazing! My kids love these on days when they are extra sleepy!

Recipe:

In a bowl combine 1/2 cup epsom salts, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup citric acid, and 20 drops essential oil. Slowly add 1-2 T water. It will foam up, don’t be scared, you’re doing it right. Combine with a fork until it looks like wet sand. Press into molds and let set overnight. Store in airtight container! Here is a video of me making them! I love to use peppermint or Thieves oils! The key to making them yourself are these molds!

You can also buy them already made here. Makes a great gift!

Eucalyptus Swag

Next time you’re at Trader Joe’s or the supermarket grab a swag of eucalyptus and hang it from the shower head. The hot water helps to bring out the scent and it looks so beautiful! Studies have shown eucalyptus to be associated with decreased stress! Who doesn’t need that every morning?

To hang, just use some twine or a rubber band to secure it to the shower head! It should last for 2-3 weeks depending how much the shower is used. Swap it out if you see brown spots or when it starts to look droopy!

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is just that! You run a firm body brush over your skin before showering each day! It promotes exfoliation and helps with circulation. Start at the feet and work your way up towards the heart. I love this small brush from Amazon!

Overall, dry brushing gives your natural detoxification system a boost! It only takes a minute and is a great way to start the day!

Foaming Body Wash

I love to make this recipe, especially for my kids who tend to over use the body wash! Watch me make it here!

Recipe:

Grab a foaming pump bottle here. Add 1/4 cup Castile soap, 1T jojoba oil, 20 drops each orange and eucalyptus, and top with water!

I also love lavender, northern lights black spruce, or tangerine! Shop oils here.

And if you’d rather have a bar soap, this one is my favorite! We rotate between this and the body wash!

‘Fat-Burning Roller’ from the book ‘The Healing Power of Essential Oils’.

Make this stat and use it after you dry brush or right out of the shower! I also love the C-Lite-Magic Massage oil from Young Living! If you want a pre-made option! It smells SOO good!

Roller Recipe:

  • 10ml roller

  • 4 drops lime essential oil

  • 3 drops peppermint essential oil

  • 3 drops grapefruit essential oil

  • 2 drops cypress essential oil

  • 1 drop eucalyptus oil

  • 1 drop cinnamon bark essential oil

  • Top with jojoba oil

  • Roll on after dry brushing or showering! Helps moisturize and improve skin tone and texture!
