3 Reasons To Ditch Chemical Cleaners

This is one of the first things we switched in our home and I will say we were a little skeptical at first! I was taught that I needed the chemicals to get things ‘clean’ but I learned that is not the case. Here are 3 reasons you should make this switch too!

1) Chemical cleaners are just that, full of chemicals! They contain fragrance, phthalates, and parabens that can aggravate allergies, headaches, and asthma. Not only do the fumes linger in the air, they are also on surfaces that we walk on and touch. The air in our homes is actually more polluted than outside air because of cleaners like this.

2) These cleaners can also harm us if used over time. The chemicals are known hormone disrupters. This means that over time they can interfere with hormones in our bodies causing issues with development and reproduction. Look at this cleaner and see how it rates on EWG.org. It even looks like a safe choice, but it’s not!

3) This switch helps protect the environment! When these chemicals are used in the home, they inevitably end up in the water which can harm our water and the animals that live there. The plastic in containers also usually have. a warning about how to dispose of these containers as well. Look at the ingredient list of this product above!

What we use instead!

Good news, there are options! We use Thieves cleaner, which is plant based and super concentrated! It basically cleans everything in our house! It took me some time to wrap my head around this, but now that we have it down, we will never go back! The best thing is that this has decreased my allergies and headaches! I also make the cleaner in a glass bottle, so it creates so much less waste over time! I’ve been using the same glass bottle for almost 4 years!

Here is the recipe for my all purpose cleaner:

16 oz glass spray bottle

1 cap Thieves cleaner

Top with water

Clean ALL the things!
